A phrase in connection first with she I heard

That love is just a four letter word

Outside a rambling storefront window

Cats meowed to the break of day

Me, I kept my mouth shut, too

To you I had no words to say

My experience was limited and underfed

You were talking while I hid

To the one who was the father of your kid

You probably didn’t think I did, but I heard

You say that love is just a four letter word

I said goodbye unnoticed

Pushed towards things in my own games

Drifting in and out of lifetimes

Unmentionable by name

Searching for my double, looking for

Complete evaporation to the core

Though I tried and failed at finding any door

I must have thought that there was nothing more

Absurd than that love is just a four letter word

Though I never knew just what you meant

将事情推向属于我自己的游戏

漂进漂出于

无以名之的诸般人生

搜索着自己的同款，寻找着

彻彻底底的完全消失

尽管试着得其门径，却未能奏效

我当时一定以为再没有什么

比这更荒谬：爱不过是个脏字

虽然我从未弄明白你的意思

当你对自己的男人说话

而我只会从自己的角度思考

而今我明白了

在醒来思考了足够多次之后看到

那理当永存的圣吻

化成了烟，它的宿命

落在陌生人身上，自由游走

是的，我现在懂了，是我自设陷阱

而我真的没必要

相信爱不过是个脏字

注：从字面上说，诗题和关键句“Love Is Just a Four Letter Word”说了一句显然的、再老实不过的话：“爱”（love）不过是一个“四字母的词”（a Four Letter Word）。但在英语中，“四字母的词”指骂人话。
